Medical Treatment for a Medical Problem Welcome! I'm glad you're made it this far! I look forward to working together to overcome your disease! We are here to help YOU achieve YOUR goals in life, and YOU choose the length of treatment you engage in. I am certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine and I have been providing specialty care to addicts for many years. Most recently I have established the San Luis Obispo Addiction Recovery Center (SLOARC), promoting the use of FDA-approved prescription medicines to treat drug addiction and alcoholism. Thousands of people have found relief from addiction through the use of prescription medications. It is clear that medically assisted sobriety and recovery helps people find relief when they would not otherwise be able to escape from their disease. Drug addiction is a medical condition, the same as high blood pressure or diabetes. People do not “choose” to be drug addicts or alcoholics any more than people “choose” to be diabetic or “choose” to have cancer. Addicts suffer from a disease process. People with this disease of the brain should not be condemned or judged as bad!. At SLOARC we help you overcome the guilt and shame associated with this disease. We have compassion for those suffering the burden of chemical dependency. We will treat you with respect and kindness. There is HOPE! We work to find that spark of hope so you can make the courageous decision to change your life. There is always hope! At your first consultation we evaluate your unique problem with substance abuse. After a friendly, open, non-judgmental discussion of your personal drug history we will establish a treatment plan that is specifically designed to be your best approach towards finding recovery from this disease. There are numerous well established medically accepted prescription protocols that will assist you. These medications are scientifically proven to reduce cravings for drugs and alcohol. We are the most experienced provider in the county of FDA approved Suboxone and Subutex that prevent narcotic withdrawal and eliminate your cravings for opiates. The best chance for long term recovery from substance abuse involves counseling and participation in groups. Many addicts have fears and negative attitudes about Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. In reality, when addicts and alcoholics meet regularly in a safe environment to openly discuss the disease of addiction and share information on how to live a drug and alcohol free life, their chances for long-term sobriety increase astoundingly. Although we do not require you participate, we strongly urge our patients to become involved in outside community recovery groups. At times we have private group sessions of SLOARC patients you can attend if you choose. There is no specific schedule or regimen for appointments at our office. Everyone has different needs regarding treatment. We see people frequently at the beginning of treatment, sometimes daily, and as patients get better and do well staying sober we see them less frequently. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask our staff. We are eager and excited to help you find a better life. Sincerely, K. Dane Howalt, M.D. |
