Patient B
I am a 52-year-old, married, working woman. I’ve had chronic low back pain for 15 years. Wanting relief, I pushed through doctor after doctor, test after test, treatment after treatment, and med after med until I was prescribed Norco. It worked. I was thrilled. I found a drug that felt good and relieved all pain from the physical to the emotional. It didn’t take long for me to develop an addiction and tolerance to the hydrocodone. Eventually, I was going to any length to manage a huge, daily pill habit. My first detox from hydrocodone was in a hospital. My insurance wouldn’t cover an in-house stay so I only had 4 days of detoxification. I also joined a 12-Step program and experienced some quality sobriety. I underwent back surgery to help with the pain. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough for me and I eventually found my way back to the Norco. This time my daily intake doubled and I wound up in big trouble. I knew in my heart I could not stay clean without what we refer to in the program as “outside help.” Fortunately, I found some information on the internet about an addiction physician, Dr. Dane Howalt, in San Luis Obispo. I consulted with Dr. Dane, enrolled in his recovery program, and was prescribed Suboxone. Within 30 minutes of my first dose of Suboxone, I was free from cravings for hydrocodone. For the first time in years, I didn’t feel high or loaded, shaky or anxious. Instead, I felt normal and alive. My senses came back along with a strong desire to maintain my sobriety and continue living my life right. Another plus is the Suboxone also helps me with my back pain. I have been on Suboxone for 72-days now. I am still free from cravings and have no desire to use, what-so-ever. For me, Suboxone is simply nothing short of a miracle. I can’t fight my addiction alone. I need help. I believe that with Suboxone, combined with the support of a 12-step program and Dr. Howalt’s care, I am finally on my way to living my life happy, joyous, and free from addiction. |
